RESIDENTIAL CHARACTER

Radhakrishnan Commission in 1949 was not happy with the idea that a premier university like Patna University should simply conduct examinations for its affiliating institutions. This, in fact, laid the solid foundation for making Patna University a Teaching-cum-Residential University of Bihar in 1952 and this character is still maintained. Despite impediments and constraints, the University has gloriously maintained its academic identity in the entire country.

The University has a compact campus contiguously extending from Patna Women’s College to Patna Law College stretching over a distance of 10 km and situated on the bank of river Ganga.

The University follows an integrated system of teaching right from Intermediate to Post-graduate level under the direct academic control of the P.G. Head and Dean of the Faculty concerned although the administrative control upto graduation may lie with the Principal of the respective college. With these inputs Patna University is the only Teaching-Cum-Residential University which has no parallel in Bihar.
