INTRODUCTION :

The P.G. Department of Sanskrit was established in 1919 and presently situated in the Darbhanga House of the Patna University. The Department provides teaching facilities for the Post-graduate students in Sanskrit, It also offers guidance to research scholars preparing for Ph.D. and D. Litt, degree. Research scholars are encouraged to under the reserach work mainly in Literature, Philosophy, Philology and Dharmashastra connected with Sanskrit.

RESULTS :

During the session the result of the M.A. Examination was published. The students fared very well in the examination.

HOSTEL :

Hostel accommodation for the students of the Department of Sanskrit is available in the different hostels of the University. Accommodation for the girl students of the Department is also available in the G.D. Mahila Chhatravas.

The Department has a rich Seminar Library and Poor Boys Library consisting of more than 8000 books. But there is no sanctioned post of Librarian and as such the Library is not in a position to extend full services to the students and teachers. There is a Professor-in-charge who manages the library work in a limited way.

The students and Research Scholars of the Department of Sanskrit are availing scholarship of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi.

REQUIREMENTS :

The Department suffers from the paucity of space. The Dept. has only two class rooms and two small rooms which are unfurnished. The Department is in immediate need of :

1. One Library-cum-Staff room

2. Seminar-Hall

3. One post Librarian

Sanskrit Day was organised in the Dept. in the month of August, 2005.
