Medical College, Patna
along with Alumni Reunion. This institution has always been the torch bearer
of medical education not only in India, but
in whole of the Asia. It
is one of the greatest pillars of the medical fraternity imparting medical
education, research techniques, clinical expertise and social behaviour to both undergraduate and post graduate
students. Beside this, it also imparts teaching to dental, nursing, Para
medical and IGNOU students. This institution has always produced national and
international level scholars, clinicians, scientists and social activists.
Many of them are National and International awardees. Doctors of this institution
are committed to poor and helpless and needy people.
This
college is the mainstay for medical education and treatment to the masses,
not only to this State, but the adjoining area of the neighboring States. Patna Medical College, Patna has
glorious past and bright future. It was started in the year 1874 as Temple Medical School with
total admission of 35 students per year. This trend continued upto 1925. After that, it was turned into the medical
college named as Prince of Wales Medical College, Patna. The
first batch of MBBS students were trained clinically at Calcutta Medical College, Calcutta.

Vertical Integrated and Horizontal Integrated teaching and weekly seminar in
each department is regular feature in this Institution. This Institution has
effective academic planning and activities for the teachers. Library is fully
equipped with modern machine and electronic gadgets. Almost every PG students
has been provided accommodation inside the Institution.
During
last one year, many achievements have been added in the progress of this
Institution. New PG hostels for 350 boys and 150 girls has
been sanctioned besides 80 quarters for the nursing staffs and 250 staff
quarters by the department of Health. Govt. of Bihar.
Orientation Programme for the PG students has been
made compulsory. For the first time the result of the first MBBS has been
published within one year as prescribed by the Medical Council of India.
Undergraduate students are regularly visiting the rural area under the banner
of Department of PSM. Regular eye care camp, family planning camp, Cancer
detection camp has been organized in Patna Medical College, Patna. ICU
Medicine, Obstetric & Paediatric and Burn have
been upgraded and modernised. Audiovisual aids like
Laptop, LCD multimedia has been given to this year to Neuro
surgery, Skin VD and Radiology also. State Training programme
on Family Planning in the Department of Obst. &
Gynaecology. Arthroscopy Training in Orthopaedics Department, state level workshop on
Filarial, Kala-azar, Infectious
Diseases were held in the Department of Paediatric
under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) S.R. Choudhary and
Dr. N.P. Narain in which many pediatrician from
outside and inside the state participated. Disabled day was organised by the department of PMR. World Tobacco Day was
organised under the banners of PSM &
Psychiatry.

M. L. Verma, Principal, Patna Medical College,
Patna has represented this Institution to the Ministry of Health for the
setting-up of a Molecular Biology in Patna Medical College, Patna which will
deal with genetic problems. Many achievements have taken place by the faculty
members of Patna Medial College. Dr.
Vijay Prakash, Professor & HOD Medicine was
invited and participated in United European Gastroenterology Week held at Prague and
also delivered guest lectures at St.
John’s Hospital, Bangalore and
many other Institutions in India. Dr.
A. K. Agrawal, Prof. of Neuro
Surgery was invited to deliberate at World Congress of Neurology at Sydney, Australia in
December 05. Dr. Vijay Achari, Associate Professor
of Medicine delivered the scientific paper at National Conference, Dr. Anil
Kumar Pandey, Professor of Neuro
Medicine, who has also joined as Superintendent, PMCH, Patna has delivered the
lecture in All India Conference. Dr. Chandrashekhar,
HOD of ENT has
presented the paper in National Conference in Mumbai and Bangalore, It is

PG student of the ENT
Department has secured first in the dissection competition in ENT at
Mumbai. Dr. P. N. Pandit, Associate Professor of
Radiotherapy presented paper in Oncology Conference at Ahmedabad,
presented a paper in the conference of Association of Gynaecological,
Oncology in Patna. Dr.
Ajit Kumar Verma has been
elected as the member of Governing Council of the Ministry of Social Justice,
New Delhi. Dr.
Shankar Prakash,
Professor & HOD Microbiology had been invited by European Commission to
deliver lecture on Kala-zar at Austria and
was course director and trainer to train Doctors from all over Bihar at
Bihar Aids Control Bhawan. Dr. Mithilesh
Kumar, Professor and HOD Radiotherapy has been elected as Vice President of
the Association of Radiation Oncology of India, Dr. R. N. Sharma, Professor
and HOD Pharmacology worked as a Medical Council of India Inspector of
various medical colleges. Dr. Sahjanand Prasad
Singh, Department of Surgery, has been elected Vice President of Bihar
Medical Association. Dr. Rashmi Singh and Dr. Ashok Shankar Singh attended 3
days workshop on RNTCP in AIIMS, New
Delhi. Dr. Rana
Narendra Kumar Singh of PSM department attended 15
days workshop on Revised National Training Programme
on T.B. at Bangalore. Dr.
R.N. Sharma and Dr. (Mrs.) Rashmi Singh were
included in Special Task Force for Prevention of Filaria
by Govt. of Bihar. They conducted CME Programme at SHIFW and PMCH, Patna as
Resource Persons. Dr. P. K. Singh, Associate Professor of Psychiatric
Department was one of the main Speaker at Annual CME programme of East Zone of Indian Psychiatric Society. Dr.
(Mrs.) S. R. Choudhary is Incharge
of Vertical Integrated Teaching of Patna Medical College, Patna, Dr.
R. R. Prasad of Physiology Department has been elected as Chief Editor of
Patna Medical Journal. Dr. Arjun Singh Professor
& HOD, Orthopaedics conducted CME programme in Orthopaedics twice
in this year. Dr. (Mrs.) Sheela Sharma, Prof. &
HOD, Obst. & Gynae has
attended the three weeks workshops on Recanalisation
of Fallopian Tube at Chennai. Dr. R.K.P. Choudhary,
Prof. & HOD, Skin & VD and Dr. Amar Kant Jha Amar, Associate Professor
presented the paper at All Indian Dermatology Conference at Mumbai. Dr. D. K.
Sinha, Associate Professor of Orthopaedics
presented the paper on Spinal cord Injury at the International conference at Taiwan.
