introduction :

The Mithilesh Rameshwar Singh, Maithili Chair in the Patna University Trust Fund was established out of generous donation by late Maharaja-Dhiraja Dr. Sir Kameshwar Singh to commorate the memory of his late father Rameshwar Singh in the year 1930. Dr. Sudhakar Jha Shastri, M.A. Ph.D. (London) was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Patna College. But regular teaching of Maithili was started in 1942. However the 1st batch M.A. examination appeared in 1950 and regular teaching of Maithili in M.A. Class was started in the year 1952.

There are 30 seats sanctioned for admission in M.A.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY

The Department possesses a good seminar Library where more than 8000 books are available for the benefit of students and teachers and research scholars of the Department.

LITERARY SOCIETY ACIVITIES :

The Deptt. has its own Maithili Sahitya Parishad, which celebrated the Vidyapati Parva in the Dept. Besides  it the Dept. has following celebration on the occasion of conclusion of Maithili LIterature in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution :
