Library was established in 1919. Like institutions if started on a modest scale, but it has been growing and developing with the pace of time.

In 1919-20 the Lt. Governer of Bihar and Orissa gave a grant of Rs. 880/- to staff of with. With this, the books prescribed for the various examination were purchased and an assistant was placed in charge of them under the supervision of the Assistant Register. That was the beginning of the Library.

The present Library building constructed (in 5400 sq. ft.) by the U.G.C. grants started functioning in 1965 when Late B. P. Mishra was the University Library.

To-day, there are several sections and collections in the Library.

The Sections are :

The Different Collections in the Library are :

Each collection, except the Gandhian, has been named after its donor to perpetuate their memories. The Bayley Memorial Collection founded in the memory of Sir Charles Bayley, the First Lt. Governer of the province of Bihar and Orissa is open to the general public both for purpose of reading and borrowing books.

A number of posts of different grades are lying vacant in the Library since long.

Besides, some more periodicals are being subscribed on receipt of U.G.C. grant to Rs. 2 lacs. However there was no grant for purchase of books during the financial year.

University Library stands particularly for research. Hence a number of Research Scholars use of visit and take advantages of the Libarary throughout the year.

   7.      Other Information

Reading sections of the Library in thrown open for 24 hours by order of the then Vice-chancellor in Nov. 2003 has been functioning as yet.

It may be mentioned that opening Library for twenty four hours without any proper security arrangement and taking own books and magazines inside the premises for studies forcibly by the students hasve not only created a lot of problems but also posed a direct threat to the security of the libarary materials which needs an immediate alternative course of action.

Further, Consequent upon the retirement of trained and experienced employees the work of the Library has been suffering to a big extent.
