Head of the Department   :          Dr. M.O. Siddiqui

Short Profile of the Department :

The Department of Botany was established in July 1948, as an erstwhile part of Patna Science College. However, it came into being as a separate Department  on April 1, 1953. Since then every attempt has been made to equip the Department of research and advance trainging. The Department of Botany, Patna University has been an acclaimed center of teaching and resesearch in Cytogenetics and allied areas of Botany since 1953. Due to its significant contributions in aforesaid areas, this Department was selected under SAP and CONSIST programs of the UGC in the year 1976 and 1988 respectively. A number of sophisticated instruments were bought for higher training and research and since then the Department has developed in many fields. More than 500 research papers were published in the journal of natioanal and international repute. There is specialized teaching in four disciplines viz., Cytogentics & Crop Impowerment, Biotechnology, Plant  Bio & Molecular Systematics and Plant Pathology & Microbiology.
